Compass Cafe

This initiative was started in November 2009. A different community group take responsibility for running the cafe for one Thursday each month. Bethel Baptist Church run it on the 2nd Thursday of each month and on other days Swavesey Women’s Institue, St Andrew’s Church and Swavesey Festival Committee take responsibility. When there is a 5th Thursday other groups are invited to tke part. So far SAY (Swavesey Action for Youth), Brownies and Cubs have enjoyed the opportunity to raise funds for their groups.

The cafe is open from 10.30am – noon. You will find a warm meeting place spread out over two rooms, the opportunity to chat, have a fairtrade drink and a piece (or two) of homemade cake.

There is even a toy corner for those with young children and on the fourth Thursday of each month it is also the venue for the health visitor baby clinic.

Homework Club

After college the homework club offers students the opportunity to meet in a safe environment from 3.15-4.45pm each Tuesday. Students (and parents) can meet, buy a coffee or snack from the coffee bar and even do some homework!

Survivors

Survivors meet every Monday from 7-8.30pm. It is for children in years 7,8 & 9.

Adventurers

The group meet every Monday in term time from 6 – 7pm.

Adventurers is for children in years 3,4,5 & 6 and is designed to be an hour of fun action activities! We have more than 20 children on the register with a regular weekly attendance of around 15.

The group works in teams which are “shuffled” each half term, with the teams choosing their team name and giving their ideas for some of the team games that we play. There is a short break half way through the meeting when we sit quietly to refresh with drinks and biscuits, and to listen to a story. We have heard about people who had met Jesus and who found out that he was amazing and people in the Bible who met with God on mountains!

Explorers

Explorers meet in term time on Monday evenings from 6-7pm. The group is for school children aged 4-7.

Most weeks there are games, a Bible story, a song, and a craft activity, with the opportunity to learn more about Jesus whilst having fun. The children often work with a leader in small groups, which are changed every term. We have about 25-30 children who attend each week.

Pastoral Care

At Bethel we recognise the importance of pastoral care within the fellowship and beyond.

Through the Pastoral Care Team we aim to maintain contact with all of the members and friends of the church and to offer practical help and assistance where possible.

Each week there is a designated member of the Pastoral Care Team who is ‘On-Call’. This person oversees the pastoral care for the week, and keeps in contact with the Pastoral Care Co-ordinator and the minister.

The Pastoral Care Team are ready and willing to visit individuals in their homes, and are able to provide Communion at home when requested.
