In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.,
In these strange and difficult times we want to encourage you to make sure that you keep God and your faith at the centre of each day. We are going to be sending out various suggestions over the next few days and weeks of things that you might choose to do to help you in this.
Today we would like to encourage you to consider:
Some of you may already be doing this and may have well established patterns and routines, but we realise that for many this may not be the case. The idea of sitting down on your own to read a passage from the Bible, or from a study/devotional guide can seem a little bit daunting or uncomfortable, so we want to suggest some other ways that you might have a go at this.
We realise that not everybody has smart phone access, but for those of you who do there are some very good apps available to help. We want to recommend 3 different apps which we think could be helpful.
YouVersion – This is a Bible App available on iPhone and Android which allows you to read the Bible from your phone. It includes a number of reading plans on different themes and topics which help to focus on the Bible readings. The app can be set to provide a daily verse of the day.
There is also a YouVersion for Kids

Pray As You Go – This is a short devotional app created in the style of ‘Thought for the Day’. It is available on iPhone and Android and also available online. It combines music, scripture and some questions for reflection and normally lasts around 10 minutes. https://pray-as-you-go.org/
Lectio365 – This is another devotional app available on iPhone and Android. It is created by the 24-7 Prayer movement and uses an ancient prayer technique called Lectio Divina as a way of focusing on the Bible. The 24-7 Prayer movement website has some other good resources worth looking at. https://www.24-7prayer.com/
I have a number of short Bible study guides in my office which I am going to make available in the Compass Room for anybody to come and collect. I’m also very happy to drop them through a letterbox if you want one delivering. If you would like to borrow one of them please come and take it, or message me and I will get it to you.
Please do let us know how you are getting on with your devotionals. If there is something that particularly strikes you about something you have read or listened to why not tell us and then we can share it within the fellowship.
